Phoenix Children’s Hospital to develop, grow campus in West Valley

PHOENIX — Phoenix Children’s Hospital announced plans Tuesday to build a freestanding emergency department and multi-specialty clinic in Avondale.
The hospital will invest $33.5 million to build and equip a new 71,250-square-foot, three-story medical office building and retrofit the existing 35,000-square-foot building to provide emergency services.
Construction on the campus, located at Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road, is set to begin in the spring of 2021 with a full opening slated for spring of 2023.
“Expanding this site in the West Valley is part of a multifaceted plan to bring care right into the communities of the families Phoenix Children’s serves,” Robert L. Meyer, president and CEO, said in a press release.
“Not only will this site expand specialty care services, but it will also answer a pressing need for emergency care for children.”
The emergency department will provide 24/7 emergency care through 40 rooms that include triage, treatment and resuscitation room.
The multi-specialty clinic, located next door, will offer several specialized services including cardiology and developmental pediatrics.
Currently, the clinic has 27 patient rooms and that total will jump to 68 following construction.
About 130 Phoenix Children’s employees will work from the West Valley location. Half of those jobs will be new positions, according to the release.
“We have additional plans in store that will make a real difference for West Valley families,” Meyer said. “Our most important responsibility is to provide the right care, at the right time and place, to children in our community.”
