Arizona surpasses 1 million people fully vaccinated for COVID-19

PHOENIX — Arizona surpassed the 1 million mark Tuesday for people who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 dashboard showed 1,007,600 people have received either both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine.

The total represents about 14% of the state’s population.

“Every dose of the COVID-19 vaccine administered to an Arizona resident represents an essential step forward in our fight against COVID-19,” Gov. Doug Ducey said in a press release.

“I’m so grateful to the thousands of staff and volunteers at vaccination sites statewide for their dedication and hard work, which has made this milestone possible.”

Overall, 2,590,447 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, with 1,628,587 people (22.7% of the state’s population) having received at least one shot.

“Of the many important milestones reached to date, this one is especially significant because it’s individuals who now have the full benefit of vaccination against COVID-19,” Dr. Cara Christ, ADHS director, said in the release. “With 1 million fully vaccinated, there are still 6 million more Arizonans who potentially can have this protection as more vaccine becomes available.”

The state-run COVID-19 vaccination site at State Farm Stadium in Glendale — the only 24/7 operation in the state — passed a half a million doses administered on Monday.
