UArizona to move to next phase of in-person learning in 2 weeks

PHOENIX — The University of Arizona announced plans Monday to move to the next phase of in-person learning in two weeks due to low COVID-19 case numbers.
The Tucson school will move to Phase 3 of its reopening plan March 29, university President Robert Robbins said in his weekly update.
The change allows for an increase in capacity for in-person and flex in-person classes from a limit of 50 students to up to 100 students.
Less than .2% of the almost 9,000 tests performed by the university between Monday and Thursday last week came back positive.
“We are able to project this shift due to continuing lower numbers of COVID-19 cases in the campus population,” Robbins said.
UArizona has been steadily progressing in reopening since the spring semester started in January.
The university started the semester in Stage 1 — only essential courses were held on campus — and moved to Stage 2 on Feb. 22.
UArizona announced last Monday that it aims to hold in-person commencement ceremonies in May and then offer most classes fully in person when the fall semester starts in August.
There won’t be a university-wide graduation ceremony like in years past, but the school is looking at a series of smaller events between May 11-18.
