PHOENIX — To mark its 150th birthday, the city of Tempe is celebrating throughout the year in a unique way.
Tempe officials announced Tuesday that a history-themed scavenger hunt will be held at a new location around the city each month.
March’s hunt is at the historic Double Butte Cemetery, the final resting place for some of Tempe’s most notable families.
Six blue containers full of historical photos, fun facts and more have been placed throughout the cemetery located near Broadway Road and 48th Street.
From now through the end of the month, those interested in taking part in the hunt are instructed to start at the cemetery’s map and use the provided clues to locate the containers.
The canisters are all attached to fixed objects, according to the city’s website.
Once located, scavenger hunters can share their thoughts and memories of their time in Tempe on the notepad in the container or simply sign their name. Hunters are also encouraged to check in digitally through posting on the Tempe History Museum’s Facebook page.
According to the city’s website, next month’s scavenger hunt will be at the Tempe Canals.
