165,000 laying hens die in barn fire at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah

PHOENIX — A fire broke out in two barns at Hickman’s Egg Farm in Tonopah on Saturday.

About 165,000 egg-laying hens died in the blaze, a spokesperson with Hickman’s Family Farms told ABC 15.

The Buckeye Valley Fire District said at least 60 firefighters were on the scene.

Other agencies to respond to the call the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority; Buckeye, Goodyear and Avondale fire departments; and the Harquahala Fire District.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and an investigation is underway.

No other information was made immediately available.
