PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday he received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ducey shared photos of himself receiving the shot by Arizona Department of Public Health Director Dr. Cara Christ at the state-run site at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

“This vaccine is safe, effective and free,” Ducey said in a press release. “I’m proud to join the more than 1.2 million Arizonans who have already received the vaccine and I encourage everyone who is eligible to sign up for a vaccination appointment.

“It’s the best way you can protect yourself and your family, while getting our kids back to school and bringing jobs back to Arizona.”

The Republican governor, who is 56, has said he wouldn’t bypass the line to receive the vaccine.

Arizona on Monday opened up 50,000 appointments for those ages 55 and up at two state-run sites — State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium — beginning Thursday.

As of Tuesday, ADHS reported that 1,857,741 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, a day-over-day increase of 39,923, with 1,241,787 people having received at least one shot.
