An office within the U.S. Department of Defense recognized APS with the 2014 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award on Sept. 26.
The ceremony was held in Washinton, D.C. and Don Brandt, APS CEO, chairman and president accepted the award on behalf of his company.
The award is the the Department’s highest recognition for employers for outstanding support of Guard and Reserve employees. Out of the 2,864 nominations, only 15 companies were selected. APS was the only employer recognized from Arizona.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said at the event that the companies selected went above and beyond to help military employees.
“Guardsmen and Reservists across the nation rely on strong bonds with their civilian employers,” he said. “I commend these extraordinary employers for their unwavering commitment to service members and their families.”
APS was nominated by an army reserve staff sergeant who highlighted the company’s “Troops to Energy Jobs” initiative. This project promotes a quick hiring process for Guardsmen and Reservists. APS also has an employee-led group to help with the transitions associated with being a military employee, sends care packages to deployed service members and helps military families at home.
