Confessions of a frustrated flight attendant

Jan 27, 2015, 9:54 PM

This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 50 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

Flight attendant and author Sydney Peal has some complaints she’d like all the rude travelers she encounters on a daily basis to hear:

1. Thank your flight attendants for the snacks!

As airlines have begun cutting costs, those peanuts you love so much were the first to go. Some people have the nerve to complain about airlines not offering gluten-free snacks. Peal’s advice? Bring your own!

2. Acknowledge the fact that your flight attendant is a human being.

Don’t just point at your tray when they hand you a drink! Peal warns it may just end up in your lap.

3. Don’t switch seats.

It’s probably not that long of a trip. So you can’t sit next to your best friend — okay. So?

4. Assist with luggage.

Peal wonders how you could have possibly brought your luggage with you this far and simply cannot manage to stow it yourself?

5. Diva requests aren’t okay.

You wanted two ice cubes? Just two? Really?

“Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘You can catch more flies with honey?'”, Peal wonders. “No? Well, let me put it in layman’s terms for you: Being polite and pleasant to your flight crew will get you a lot more while up in the air than being a thankless diva.”
