Twitterverse erupts over Delta breastfeeding tweet

You know when you’re trying to handle a sensitive situation and it doesn’t go well?
If you don’t, allow us to explain.
ABC News found this gem of a conversation between Delta Airlines and a breastfeeding mother whose son eats every two hours and refuses to take a bottle or be covered by a blanket.
The airline originally told the mom, Lindsay Jaynes, that she was not allowed to breastfeed without a cover up and offered this explanation.
@DeltaAssist So even though I am legally allowed to breastfeed without a cover, you're saying I can't? Is there a Delta written policy?
— Lindsay Jaynes (@ClassicHippie) February 21, 2014
Needless to say, Jaynes (and the entire Twitterverse) weren’t exactly thrilled. Delta was besieged by thousands of angry tweeters and the conversation exploded.
The airlines has since apologized for mishandling the question and the employee who sent the tweet was informed of the policy that allows mothers to breastfeed on flights.
