PHOENIX – Phoenix-based mattress producer Brooklyn Bedding announced plans to build a huge manufacturing facility along with new headquarters in Glendale.

The $72 million building will take up 648,165 square feet near 51st Avenue and Bethany Home Road and is scheduled to be completed by December, the company said.

Officials broke ground last week on the 43-acre lot. The bedding company said the move would triple production capacity. About 150 employees are expected to be hired over the next two years, the mattress maker said. They will join more than 250 already employed.

“Brooklyn Bedding has come a long way from the early days of selling overstock mattresses to now be in a position to triple mattress production,” founder John Merwin said in a press release posted recently on social media.

Operations will continue at the Phoenix manufacturing site at 45th Avenue and Camelback Road and the nearby warehouse until the new facility opens.

“We are incredibly pleased to not only welcome Brooklyn Bedding to Glendale, but also thank them for choosing Glendale for their headquarters and manufacturing,” Mayor Jerry Weiers said in a press release last Wednesday.

Brooklyn Bedding has 21 stores in the Valley and Tucson.
