PHOENIX — Glendale police have released body cam footage of an officer-involved shooting from December that left a 45-year-old man dead.
The video (WARNING: graphic content) shows Christopher Cuevas running toward the officer with a metal bar in his hand.
The officer yelled repeatedly for Cuevas to drop his weapon. Cuevas continued to run forward when he was shot five times by the officer, who Glendale police said has more than two years of experience in the department.
Cuevas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer was responding to a burglary alarm that went off at a home near 59th Avenue between Northern and Glendale avenues around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 22.
Cuevas was found in the backyard of the home attempting to break in and tried to run away before turning toward the officer, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
It was the second shooting of the year involving a member of the Glendale Police Department, according to tracking by KTAR News 92.3 FM, and the 24th involving law enforcement in metro Phoenix.
