PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks and UnitedHealthcare have partnered with a non-profit organization to bring meals to low-income kids.

The non-profit organization Kitchen on the Street is launching the “Pack the House” program, which involves packing “Bags of Hope.”

“At the end of the season we would have packed 49,000 Bags of Hope, which is one bag for each seat at Chase Field,” said Jeff Campbell, account executive with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Bags of Hope are free meals that are picked up by underserved children who do not have access to school lunch programs during the weekend.

“The D-Backs Foundation partnering with UnitedHealthcare helps us to generate more revenue to be able to fill the need(s) of folks here in the Valley,” said Campbell.

Kitchen on the Street distributes the Bags of Hope every Friday between 27 schools in the Valley.

Better and consistent nourishment keeps the children healthier and happy.

“We find kids attend school more regularly, they enjoy a healthier life,” said Lisa Scarpinato, co-founder of Kitchen on the Street. “Their reading and math scores have improved.”

Founded in 2006, Kitchen on the Street currently has 1,640 students enrolled in the program, according to Scarpinato.
