PHOENIX — Two people were killed and two more injured Monday after gunfire erupted during a possible drug deal gone bad, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
MCSO said it received a 911 call about noon that four men had been shot in the desert near Gila Bend. By the time authorities arrived, two of the men had died.
All four were found in a cave that contained guns and drugs.
“There was about 400 pounds of marijuana but we can’t connect it with those murders right now,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said, adding that the shooting may have been cartel-related.
MCSO believes at least two other men opened fire. One of the victims is helping deputies with the investigation.
