PHOENIX — A 19-year-old woman has been arrested for leaving the scene of a serious hit and run accident in Mesa, authorities said Tuesday.

Haley Madison Dean allegedly failed to yield to a stop sign and collided with a 55-year-old man on a motorized bicycle near 98th Street and Broadway Road just after 4 p.m. Monday.

The man was ejected from the bicycle and taken to the hospital with a life-threatening head injury, according to authorities.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detectives reviewed surveillance from the accident and a neighbor recognized the black Chevrolet Cobalt in the video, telling authorities it is usually parked at a house near 97th Way and Birchfield Road.

Detectives drove to the house and located the car that had damage consistent of being involved in a car vs. bicycle collision in addition to physical evidence collected at the scene of the accident.

Dean was observed exiting the vehicle and initially made up a story about the damage to her car before eventually admitting she was behind the wheel at the time of the collision, according to authorities.

She was booked into jail on one count of leaving the scene of an at-fault traffic collision.
