PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will hold a clothing drive on Wednesday to collect items for inmates being released from custody and re-entering society, according to a press release.

Clothes will be collected in Phoenix at the MCSO headquarters building on 550 W. Jackson St. and at the Watkins Jail parking lot at 2680 S. 28th Drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All clothing items are welcome, including pants, shorts, long and short sleeve t-shirts and hoodies or sweatshirts.

Elastic waistband pants and shorts are preferred.

Donations that are not suitable for released inmates will be donated to non-profit organizations, according to the release.

The clothing drive is part of the MCSO Custody Bureau’s “Operation Clothing Closet” project, which provides clothing to inmates in custody and as they get released back into society.

Inmates are often arrested and booked into jail wearing clothing that is not suitable for their needs, according to the release.

The program aims to give people an opportunity to feel better about re-entering society dressed appropriately with a clean pair of clothes.

MCSO employees will also be dropping off clothes as a way of “paying it forward” to those who they serve, according to the release.

We want to hear from you.
