PHOENIX — A Valley restaurant owner said Thursday he will sue Sheriff Joe Arpaio over a 2013 immigration raid.
Attorneys for Bret Frimmel, owner of Uncle Sam’s restaurant near 83rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive, said the suit alleges wrongful arrest and prosecution by the Arpaio-led Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Arpaio’s deputies raided both the restaurant and Frimmel’s home in 2013. Frimmel pleaded not guilty to several identity-theft related charges, which were dropped in April.
An Uncle Sam’s employee, Lisa Norton, also filed suit against Arpaio.
The suits come as Arpaio took the stand in his contempt-of-court hearing. Arpaio is accused of violating a 2011 order barring MCSO from conducting its controversial immigration patrols.
