PHOENIX — Talk about a close call: The locker of Arizona Cardinals legend Pat Tillman was saved from demolition earlier this month by a team employee.
AZCardinals.com reports the locker was set to be destroyed during a renovation until Broadcast and New Media Manager Jim Omohundro stopped the demolition with seconds to spare.
“I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. Can we carefully cut this one out and set it aside?’ ” Omohundro told the team’s site. “I explained it was Pat Tillman’s locker.”
Omohundro, who stopped the wrecking ball after seeing a post online, said he’s wanted to save the locker since 2006. He figured the team, the NFL Hall of Fame or the Tillman Foundation would have a use for it.
The team has not announced a plan for the locker.
