PHOENIX — Although sports betting remains illegal in Arizona ahead of Super Bowl LV on Sunday, the state’s gaming department says there are ways to legally skirt the rules and win money.

The Arizona Department of Gaming has guidelines for how to host office pools, squares competitions and other social gambling ventures within the legal boundaries.

ADG says to not conduct any social gambling as business, meaning hosts can’t receive financial benefit unless they are also participating.

All pool money must also be paid to the winners and only participants can win, according to social gambling guidelines.

“For those who choose to make a friendly social gambling wager for Super Bowl LV, the Arizona Department of Gaming asks that you follow Arizona law,” Director Ted Vogt said in a press release. “Whether you are participating in an office or home pool, make sure to follow these tips to keep your game legal.”

There are a few ways to know that illegal gambling is occurring, ADG says.

Pools that require a fee instead of a suggested or voluntary donation, or require a minimum purchase such as food or drink to participate are prohibited.

So is a pool where the organizer keeps a portion of the money as an administration fee.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs for the title on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Arizona time in Tampa Bay.
