PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall met with Gov. Doug Ducey and members of the state legislature Tuesday at a Q and A lunch.

The meeting was the first in a series of luncheons hosted by the governor where lawmakers can discuss a variety of topics with special guest speakers.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Hall fielded many baseball-related question but he also pitched political advice to members of the legislature.

“I think there is definitely similarities in trying to attract companies here, just like we try to attract free agents, staying within a budget when you’re competing with other large budgets,” Hall said.

The Diamondbacks president told lawmakers he understands what it is like to make difficult decisions that causes fans to be upset. He said lawmakers can relate to that feeling so it is important to continue building relationships and partnering together.

Hall said he believes leaders in the public and private sectors can learn a lot from each other.

“I think there are parallels, and so it was nice being able to offer at least my advice and how we deal with it,” Hall said. “I think much like they do, trying to appease and satisfy everybody, which is very difficult to do.”
