PHOENIX — Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio is in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus, he confirmed to KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.

The councilman said he has been quarantining away from his family for eight days after coming down with symptoms and later testing positive.

“It definitely feels like everybody describes it,” DiCiccio said. “It feels like you’re breathing through glass, sharp glass.”

DiCiccio added that he is feeling better after experiencing mild symptoms, but stressed the importance of getting tested upon the onset of symptoms to help stop the spread of the virus.

“If you get tested positive, you have to quarantine,” he said. “You have to stay away from your family. This is very contagious,” he said. “You don’t want to be responsible for giving it to your family or anyone else for that matter.”

DiCiccio represents District 6 on Phoenix’s city council.

Arizona health officials on Tuesday reported 4,748 new coronavirus cases, the lowest one-day increase of the new year, and 209 additional deaths from COVID-19.

The state’s documented totals moved to 732,643 infections and 12,448 fatalities, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 dashboard.
