PHOENIX — An Arizona police dog made quite the discovery during a traffic stop late last month, according to authorities.
Maximus, a K9 with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, sniffed out 95 pounds of marijuana disguised as Christmas presents and stuffed inside suitcases during the Dec. 30 stop on Interstate 40 near Ash Fork.
The suspect, 34-year-old Samson Budagyan of California, was pulled over for a moving violation and the deputy unleashed Maximus after detecting a marijuana odor, YCSO said.
Budagyan told the deputy the presents were for his children, according to YCSO.
Budagyan was arrested on charges of transportation of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center and was released on a bond of $40,000.
