PHOENIX – Flags were ordered to fly at half-staff on all state government buildings Friday in honor of an Arizona State University police officer who died in a traffic accident.
Officer Joseph Montgomery was on his motorcycle Thursday morning when he crashed on Loop 101 near University Drive in Tempe, according to the Arizona Department of Safety.
Gov. Doug Ducey said flags will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
“Arizona is deeply saddened by the loss of ASU Police Officer Joseph Montgomery,” Ducey said Thursday in a press release announcing the flag order.
“He put his life on the line to protect others, and we are grateful for his bravery, sacrifice and service. Our prayers are with his wife, four children, loved ones and the ASU Police Department during this difficult time.”
Montgomery served the university force for 13 years. He is survived by his wife and four children, ASU police said.
