PHOENIX — One man has died, one has been arrested and another has been detained after a fatal pedestrian collision Saturday night and a car crash with a Phoenix police vehicle just outside of the scene on Sunday morning.

The fatal pedestrian collision occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Authorities said that officers located the pedestrian in the roadway and Phoenix Fire personnel pronounced the man dead on scene.

Witnesses reported that a vehicle was traveling over 70 mph northbound on 75th Avenue when it struck the pedestrian attempting to cross the street.

The man was not in a crosswalk when the collision occurred, police said.

Authorities said additional evidence found that the vehicle involved in the crash was street racing.

The driver was arrested and booked for manslaughter, police said.

As a result of the fatal pedestrian collision, barricades were set up by police in order to properly assist with traffic at the scene.

On Sunday around 5 a.m. while authorities were still investigating, another vehicle crashed into the barricades and then into the front end of a police Tahoe that was parked just north of the barricades.

Two officers were inside of the police vehicle, officials said.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital, but neither had life-threatening injuries.

The 21-year-old driver of the car was detained and signs of impairment were found upon investigation.
