PHOENIX – Call it a case of grand theft aircraft.

Thieves broke into a northern Arizona airport on New Year’s Eve and made off with an airplane, according to authorities.

They entered the Cottonwood Airport by forcing open the main gate just before midnight, the Cottonwood Police Department said in a press release Wednesday.

The suspects made off with a box trailer that contained an airplane. They also stole airplane parts from the city-owned airport. Police said the total loss was valued at $70,000-$80,000.

Authorities are offering a $450 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Anybody with information was asked to contact police at 928-649-1397 or Yavapai Silent Witness online or at 800-932-3232.
