Construction begins on new interchange on Loop 202 in Gilbert

PHOENIX — Construction on a long-planned interchange at Lindsay Road and Loop 202 in Gilbert began on Monday.
The intersection, which has been in the works since 2018, will connect the highway with Gilbert’s central business district, according to a town press release.
The $22 million project includes new on-and-off-ramps at Loop 202 and Lindsay Road, in addition to road improvements from Pecos to Germann roads that will enable an intersection and a westbound frontage road between Lindsay and Gilbert roads.
Gilbert Mayor Scott Anderson said the long-planned improvements in the area will greatly improve access and travel in the region, which will benefit residents and visitors alike.

“As Gilbert continues to grow, this new interchange will provide much-needed relief and flexibility for our traffic system, making it easier to access Gilbert’s Central Business District and nearby residential areas,” Anderson said in the release.
Funding for the road improvements came from the town, as well as the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Federal Highway Administration.
A portion of the project also included the town installing extra pavement for future widening projects on Loop 202 in Gilbert, avoiding ramp closures during the construction process.
The construction project at Lindsay Road is expected to be completed by February 2022.
