Woman walking across Glendale street hit by car, killed

PHOENIX – Police in Glendale said a woman was hit by a car and killed early Tuesday as she crossed a street.
The unidentified woman was struck on 51st Avenue near Bethany Home Road around 6 a.m., Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula said in an email.
The woman was declared dead at the scene, police said.
The driver stayed at the West Valley site to answer officers’ questions.
The fatal accident closed 51st Avenue from Maryland Avenue to the Grand Avenue overpass for hours.
