PHOENIX — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport announced on Tuesday that all ticketed passengers will now have the ability to receive a free coronavirus test upon arrival.

No insurance is needed for the tests that are being provided through a partnership with the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Private third-party contractor Paradigm Laboratories will be conducting the tests, with results to be provided within 48 hours.

Ticketed passengers can make an appointment prior to arriving at the airport by either going online or scanning a QR code found on COVID-19 testing directional signs throughout the terminal.

The move is part of the Stay Healthy, Fly Safe initiative that executive director and CEO J. Brian O’Neill says was designed to protect employees, airport tenants and the traveling public from COVID-19.

“The state of Arizona’s commitment to provide additional testing locations like the one at Gateway Airport will help reduce the spread of the virus until more of the population has an opportunity to receive the vaccine,” he said in a press release.

Gateway joins Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in offering onsite COVID-19 testing. Sky Harbor, Arizona’s largest travel hub, launched a program in November.

We want to hear from you.
