PHOENIX — Vitalant is seeking more than 600 donors for its Saving Arizona blood drive that will happen this weekend in metro Phoenix.

The nonprofit blood service provider is offering a Streets of New York pizza coupon and a buy one/get one free voucher for an Arizona Coyotes game in 2021-22 for those those who participate.

The drive will occur Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gila River Arena in Glendale and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tempe Center for the Arts.

“While the holidays reduce the number of people giving blood, heavy traffic on the roads and highways increases the potential for accidents and the need for blood,” Sid Lewis, senior director of donor recruitment for Vitalant’s Southwest Division, said in a press release.

The holiday season is typically the slowest for blood donations and with the coronavirus pandemic, there’s an increased need for blood.

Those with Type O blood are especially requested for the drive.

Type O blood is in greatest demand because it can be substituted for other blood types in emergencies or when shortages arise.

Donors can sign up online or call 877-258-4825 to make an appointment.

We want to hear from you.
