PHOENIX – Drive right up, ladies and gentlemen, for the safest show on earth.
Or something like that.
The Zoppé Circus is coming to town for the holiday season with a drive-in version of its show — with COVID-19 safety protocols approved by the city of Tempe.
The Italian family circus troupe is setting up shop at Big Surf for one or more performances daily from Saturday through Jan. 4.
Tickets are each good for one vehicle and can be purchased online. Prices, which depend on how far a section is from the stage, range from $49 to $199, plus fees.
Rates are higher for the New Year’s Eve show, which will feature party favors, a countdown and balloon drop.
RVs, buses or limos are not allowed, and there can’t be more people than seat belts in each vehicle.
Gates open an hour before showtime, with seating, er, parking, available on a first-come, first-served basis within the purchased section.
According to the Zoppé website, shows will take place in an elevated circus ring, with a large video screen overhead, and blend live traditional circus performances with original movie footage.
Like a drive-in movie, the sound will come through the FM radio of your car.
Attendees can sit on truck tailgates or lawn chairs within their designated space.
Staff members will enforce social distancing guidelines, and failure to comply could result in ejection.
