PHOENIX – Nearly a dozen people were forced out of their homes by an apartment fire early Wednesday, Phoenix first responders said.
No one was seriously injured in the fire at a three-story building near 35th and Dunlap avenues, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said in an email, but two people were treated at the scene and two dogs died.
Firefighter David J. Ramirez said heavy smoke was pouring from a ground-floor unit when crews arrived around 5 a.m. Crews could see flames.
Two upper units took substantial smoke damage, but the flames were contained in the first-floor apartment.
Fire officials said 10 residents were displaced.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was underway.
