Here are some of the biggest stories that headlined the Arizona news cycle over the weekend.

The state’s documented totals increased to 408,442 COVID-19 infections and 7,357 fatalities, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Statewide, 42% of all inpatient beds and 48% of all ICU beds were filled with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients on Sunday, levels last seen in July.

The rolling seven-day average for the health department’s newly reported cases rose to 6,241.29 on Saturday, the highest ever, according to tracking by The Associated Press.

During the first wave of the pandemic in Arizona, when testing was less available than it is now, the seven-day case average peaked at 3,844 on July 6 and afterward fell as low as 373.14 on Sept. 12.

The company’s $2 million investment will affect residents in Sonoita, Sedona, Stanfield, Queen Valley, Page and Wilhoit, according to a press release Friday from Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

Around 17,000 people, hundreds of small businesses, schools, first responders and local government offices are expected to benefit from enhanced internet connectivity and extended cell phone coverage.

Shooting at house party in north Phoenix leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

A shooting at a house party in north Phoenix on Saturday left one person dead and another injured, according to Phoenix police.

Authorities said the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. at a residence near 28th Street and Greenway Road.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

While officers were still on scene of the incident, a second man with a gunshot wound arrived at a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.

The Scottsdale location of PHX Beer Co. has added a new food menu for four-legged brewery visitors.

The new dog menu includes a grass-fed burger, grilled chicken breast and a free bowl of water to wash down the meal, according to a press release.

PHX Beer Co. is also making dog bones that are sold individually and in packs of 18, with a portion of the proceeds from the items benefitting Arizona Small Dog Rescue.

US Supreme Court asked to decertify Biden’s win in Arizona

Conservative lawyer Sidney Powell has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to decertify Democrat President-elect Joe Biden’s victory over Republican President Donald Trump in Arizona.

Powell, who filed the request with the court on Friday night, also asks the justices to bar Biden’s electors from casting Electoral College votes on Monday.

Her appeal marks the second petition for review filed with the nation’s highest court in challenges to Biden’s win in the state. Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward on Friday asked the Supreme Court to review her case seeking to overturn Arizona’s election results.

Powell is appealing the dismissal of her lawsuit that alleged voting equipment in Arizona switched votes from Trump to Biden. A lower-court judge dismissed the challenge on Wednesday, ruling no evidence of fraud had been presented and that those who filed the lawsuit lacked legal standing.

We want to hear from you.
