PHOENIX – The streak is over. Metro Phoenix’s long dry spell officially ended late Wednesday with rain showers that continued into early Thursday.

The National Weather Service reported .02 inches fell by around 4:30 a.m., about half before midnight, busting a run of 110 days without measurable rain.

Readings collected by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County showed the East Valley had gotten most of the rain at .10 inches by around 5:30 a.m. Other areas had as little as a few hundredths of an inch.

The Phoenix weather bureau said Tuesday the area is almost 3 inches behind the norm in rainfall at this time of year.

Rain was expected to last through Thursday morning.

The last time the Valley saw any rain of note was Aug. 21, when a monsoon storm dumped over an inch in an east Phoenix neighborhood and 0.99 inches at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
