PHOENIX — The Arizona House of Representatives and Senate will close for a week starting Monday due to coronavirus concerns, state officials say.

All staff and members of the legislative bodies will be required to work remotely and the building will be closed to all meetings, according to an email House Chief of Staff Michael Hunter sent to all employees.

Director of Communications for the State Senate Mike Philipsen confirmed the closure Sunday night.

The House chose to shut down following the Senate’s announcement of the closure, Andrew Wilder, director of communications for the Arizona House of Representatives, told KTAR News 92.3 in an email.

The decision comes after the announcement that President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

Giuliani attended an unofficial meeting in Phoenix last week arguing for President Trump’s legal team regarding the results of the state’s elections. Nine Republican state lawmakers were in attendance.
