PHOENIX — A freeze warning was issued for Friday in metro Phoenix and other parts of Arizona by the National Weather Service.

The low temperature in Phoenix is supposed to drop to 41 degrees on Friday and lows across other parts of the state will near freeze levels.

In addition to Maricopa County, four other Arizona counties will be under Friday’s freeze warning — Pinal, Yuma, Gila and La Paz.

“Temperatures Friday morning may be the coldest so far this early winter with many areas potentially seeing temperatures below freezing,” NWS said in a press release.

La Paz and Yuma will also have a freeze warning for Saturday morning.

The chilly temperatures are a stark contrast to the abnormally warm summer and fall weather Arizona and metro Phoenix saw earlier this year.

Phoenix posted an average high temperature of 93.2 degrees from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, breaking the previous record of a 92-degree average high during autumn that was set in 2017.

Phoenix already has shattered its record for the most days of triple-digit heat in a calendar year with 144, topping the previous record of 143 days in 1989.

Between June and August this year, Phoenix reported 50 days with a high temperature of at least 110 degrees. That bested the record of 33 days set in 2011.

Phoenix also had its hottest August ever since tracking began in 1896.
