PHOENIX — The town of Gilbert is launching a discounted recreation program for residents who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The town council’s AZCares Subcommittee has allocated $400,000 of coronavirus relief aid to provide an automatic 50% discount for Gilbert residents registering for recreation programs starting Nov. 30.

“The challenges brought upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic have certainly emphasized how parks and recreation programs are an essential piece to support a thriving community,” Gilbert Parks and Recreation Manager John Kennedy said in a press release.

“It is through these programs that we are able to engage, entertain and educate families while providing support to the physical and mental wellbeing of our residents.”

The funding will be distributed in increments of $100,000 per session or until the funds run out.

Residents will be able to select from a wide variety of programming for all ages like arts and crafts, adult fitness and early childhood education classes.

The full list of programs offered and how to register can be found at online.
