Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office mourns death of K-9 Yankee

PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is in mourning after a respected police dog died of a brain tumor.

Yankee was an office favorite and “did his job extremely well and also knew when to relax,” MCSO said Monday on social media.

The K-9 was nearing retirement when his “symptoms rapidly escalated,” MCSO said.

“He was suffering from a very aggressive brain tumor, and after consulting with our veterinarian the humane decision was made,” the agency said.

MCSO said a video tribute to Yankee would soon be posted.
