PHOENIX – Three suspects were at large Monday after one shot a West Valley convenience store clerk who tried to stop them from shoplifting.

The suspects attempted to steal beer and food from the Circle K at Dysart and Waddell roads around 3 a.m., according to the El Mirage Police Department.

The clerk confronted the men, and one of them shot him before the suspects fled on foot.

The clerk’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers arrived at the scene within a minute after a witness called 911, but they could not locate the suspects, police said.

Anybody with information about the case was asked to call El Mirage police at 623-500-3035 or email Det. Mike Vanorski at mvanorski@elmirageaz.gov.
