Joe Biden continues to hold lead in Arizona over Donald Trump

Nov 9, 2020, 7:23 PM

PHOENIX – President-elect Joe Biden continued to hold his lead over Republican President Donald Trump in Arizona on Monday, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

In the latest update, Trump gained 3,196 votes but continued to trail Biden, who tallied an additional 3,056 votes. Biden continued to lead Trump 1,648,642 votes to 1,633,896 votes statewide, a difference of 14,746 votes.

The update included 6,495 ballots reported by Maricopa County, according to the Maricopa County Elections Department.

Across the state, there are an estimated 61,500 ballots left to be tabulated, including approximately 29,500 in Maricopa County.

In Arizona, Tuesday is the final day to verify early ballots with signatures that don’t match records and provisional ballots that were cast on Election Day.

The Associated Press projected Biden winning Arizona shortly after election night, after an analysis of ballots cast statewide concluded there were not enough outstanding to allow Trump to catch up.

On Saturday, the Associated Press projected that Biden unseated Trump to become the 46th president of the United States.

Across the nation, Biden has received more than 75 million votes nationally, the most in history.

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ transition team started working on Monday as they prepare to take over the office.

Biden announced a coronavirus task force comprised of public health and science experts to develop a plan to fight the ongoing pandemic.
