PHOENIX – A driver accused of purposefully spinning in circles then barricading in the car shut down ramps to a busy Phoenix-area freeway early Friday.

The driver was taken into custody on Loop 202 near Val Vista Drive in Gilbert. Ramps in both directions were closed around 6:30 a.m.

A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email to KTAR News 92.3 FM witnesses called troopers to report someone doing doing donuts on the East Valley freeway.

When troopers reached the area and tried to make contact, the driver hunkered down in the vehicle.

No other details were immediately available.
