PHOENIX – All nine of Arizona’s U.S. Representatives were reelected in their respective district races, but two of the races turned into nailbiters.

In District 1, incumbent Democrat Tom O’Halleran defended his seat against Republican challenger Tiffany Shedd.

The Associated Press projected O’Halleran had kept his seat on Tuesday when he led Shedd 51.65%-48.35%, a difference of 11,939 votes.

O’Halleran’s campaign had released a statement on Monday claiming victory in the race but Shedd had yet to concede.

“I’m ready to continue working to get things done on affordable health care, lowering prescription drug prices, cleaning up Washington and supporting our tribal communities,” O’Halleran said.

The other hotly contested race was District 6 between Republican incumbent David Schweikert and Democratic challenger Hiral Tipirneni.

Schweikert, who overtook Tipirneni on Wednesday and steadily increased his lead in the following days, was called the winner by the Associated Press on Saturday.

Schweikert was elected to his sixth congressional term with the win. He’s served in District 6 since 2011.

Tipirneni released a statement on Saturday saying she had called Schweikert and conceded.

The remaining races appeared to have slim chances for districts to be flipped, and that stayed true when races were called on Tuesday.

Democrat incumbent Ann Kirkpatrick secured reelection against Republican challenger Brandon Martin.

Democrat Raul Grijalva retained his seat in District 3 against Republican Daniel Wood.

In District 4, Republican Paul Gosar secured reelection against Democratic challenger Delina DiSanto.

Republican Andy Biggs defeated Democratic challenger Joan Greene in District 5 to retain his seat.

In District 7, Democrat Ruben Gallego secured reelection to keep his seat against Republican challenger Joshua Barnett.

Republican Debbie Lesko retained her seat in District 8 against Democratic challenger Michael Muscato.

Finally, in District 9, Democrat Greg Stanton won another term against Republican challenger Dave Giles.
