Wrong-way driver collides with motorcycle rider on Phoenix freeway

PHOENIX – A wrong-way accident on a Phoenix freeway left a motorcycle rider hospitalized with life-threatening injuries late Sunday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email Monday a vehicle going southbound in northbound lanes on State Route 51 collided with the motorcycle near Glendale Avenue shortly after 10 p.m.
Authorities said they had received calls alerting them about the wrong-way driver, then got calls about the accident.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
The roadway was shut down until around 3 a.m.
The investigation was continuing.
