2 killed, DPS trooper injured after car hits patrol vehicle

PHOENIX — Two people have been killed and an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper was hurt after a car collided with a patrol vehicle on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on westbound San Tan 202 near Kyrene Road in Chandler.
The trooper was parked on the left shoulder investigating a single-vehicle crash when a car entered the shoulder and rear-ended the trooper’s vehicle, according to the release.
The two passengers of the car that hit the patrol vehicle died, while the trooper was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are investigating the incident and said impairment has not been ruled out.
