PHOENIX — Online vacation rentals marketer Airbnb is warning against throwing house parties in Arizona during Halloween weekend.

Airbnb said Friday that the company may take legal action against guests who violate policy that prohibits parties as the coronavirus pandemic rages on across the world.

One-night reservations over Halloween weekend aren’t allowed at listings in Arizona and across the country and Canada.

“The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties,” Airbnb said in a press release.

“This action is designed to help protect our hosts and the communities they live in.”

Airbnb in July suspended or removed 50 listings in Arizona, including in six Valley cities, for violations.

Some Valley homes located in Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tempe were tagged for misconduct.

Listings in Bisbee, Flagstaff, Lake Havasu City, Sedona, Tucson and Vail were also found to have disobeyed the service’s policies on parties and events.

The listings all had prior complaints or otherwise violated the company’s policies.

Airbnb previously prohibited large gatherings in accordance with the state’s coronavirus virus safety measures. One of those measures in Gov. Doug Ducey’s proclamation is a mandate against large gatherings.

Coronavirus cases in Arizona have again been on the rise.

More than 1,000 COVID-19 cases in a daily report has been attained five times this week.

Before this week, that level had been reached only two times in the prior five weeks.

Arizona health authorities reported 1,565 new coronavirus cases and 16 additional deaths on Friday morning.
