Arizona surpasses 4.2 million active registered voters ahead of election

PHOENIX – Arizona’s top elections official said on Wednesday the state has more than 4.2 million active voters registered ahead of the general election next week.

Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said an additional 388,000 Arizonans registered since the quarterly update in January and close to 246,000 since the August update.

“More than two million voters have already voted early, which is really impressive,” Hobbs said in a press release.

The report showed that 4.2 million voters are active, meaning their voter information is up to date. The number of inactive voters, 454,000, had decreased by about 46,000 registered voters since the quarterly update in August.

Of the active registered voters, approximately 35.24% were Republican, 32.2% were Democrat and 31.67% were Independent.

Voters had until Oct. 15 to register for the general election this year after a judge granted an extension after two advocacy groups said the coronavirus pandemic affected registration numbers.

Hobbs is urging voters to make sure they have a plan to vote as Tuesday’s election draws near.

“Voters who are eligible to vote in this election but have still not cast their ballot should make a plan as we head into Election Day,” Hobbs said.
