PHOENIX — A Phoenix middle school shut down in-person learning Friday and is asking students and staff to quarantine for at least 14 days following four positive coronavirus tests.

Madison No. 1 Middle School, located near 16th Street and Missouri Avenue, won’t return to in-person instruction until at least Nov. 9, the school said on its Facebook page.

Students will revert to a virtual block schedule while the school remains closed.

No other schools in the Madison School District were directly affected by the positive tests.

“After consulting with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, all students and staff at Madison No. 1 will need to quarantine for at least 14 days,” the school said on Facebook.

Madison is one of 33 schools in Maricopa County to have reported a coronavirus outbreak.

Thirty-one of those outbreaks are ongoing for a total of 131 cases, according to data from the county’s public health dashboard.

Arizona health authorities reported 975 new coronavirus cases and six additional deaths on Friday morning.

That put the state’s documented totals at 235,882 COVID-19 infections and 5,865 fatalities, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.
