PHOENIX — Crews continue to make progress against a wildfire that has burned close to 10,000 acres near Prescott.

Containment on the Horse Fire reached 32% on Wednesday, up from 21% a day earlier, authorities said.

Fire officials are concerned increasing winds through Saturday could rekindle the blaze in areas.

The blaze had scorched 9,442 acres about 20 miles south of Prescott and 7 miles northwest of the unincorporated community of Crown King in Yavapai County.

Evacuations remain in effect for communities of Crown King, Minnehaha, Horsethief Cabins and any other areas in and around the fire area.

All roads leading into Crown King have also been closed.

The Horse Fire began burning Thursday and was human caused.

The investigation is ongoing.

Wildfires have burned more than 900,000 acres in Arizona this year.
