PHOENIX — Drivers heading through the heart of Phoenix this week will have to deal with overnight closures on the area’s two major freeways.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will restrict traffic Tuesday-Friday nights while it conducts bridge inspections at the “stack” interchange, where Interstates 17 and 10 intersect.
Northbound I-17 at the I-10 stack will be closed Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers can detour to I-10 or use the northbound frontage road starting at Adams Street.
The southbound ramp of I-17 to eastbound I-10 will be closed during the same time.
The eastbound ramp of I-10 to southbound I-17 will close Wednesday from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m.
On Thursday night, southbound I-17 will be closed at I-10 from 9 p.m to 5 a.m. Traffic will be able to use southbound frontage road starting at McDowell Road or detour to I-10.
The eastbound ramp of I-10 to northbound I-17 is scheduled to be closed as well on Thursday.
Finally, the eastbound ramp of I-10 to northbound I-17 will be closed Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
This week, bridge closures are coming to Phoenix's "Stack" interchange … as well as work on I-40 and SR 87.
