PHOENIX – Mesa police are looking for a shooting suspect, an Arizona-based band will hold a livestream concert from Arcosanti and a popular Tucson fast food chain is returning to the Valley.

Here are some of the biggest stories that headlined the Arizona news cycle over the weekend.


Police searching for suspect after 7 people found shot at Mesa parking lot

The Mesa Police Department is still searching for a suspect in a Friday night shooting that left seven people injured, including four children.

A 1-year-old, 6-year-old, 9-year-old and 16-year-old as well as three adults were shot, Mesa police said.

The 1-year-old died from his injuries Sunday. The other victims’ injuries range from severe to minor and are expected to live.

According to authorities, a white Kia Soul or box type car pulled up to a food truck event in a parking lot at Dobson and Guadalupe roads and opened fire.


Arizona-based band Puscifer releasing new album, play livestream concert

Arizona-based rock group Puscifer announced Friday the release of the band’s first album in five years and a livestream concert.

The band’s new album, dubbed “Existential Reckoning,” will be released on Oct. 30, according to the release. It is Puscifer’s first since 2015’s “Money Shot.”

The sextet, which is fronted by Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle fame, also announced it will perform the album live from Arcosanti in Yavapai County on Oct. 30.

Tickets for the livestream of the band’s new album are available now on the band’s website. The stream will go up at 3 p.m. and remain on the site on-demand for 72 hours,


Eegee’s returning to metro Phoenix with 5 locations set to open in 2021

A popular Tucson fast food chain is bringing its signature frozen drinks to metro Phoenix next year.

Eegee’s will open five Valley locations in 2021, the company announced Friday in a press release.

Eegee’s will have a location in Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale and two in Gilbert.

“We look forward to becoming a part of the Phoenix metroplex through job creation at our five new restaurants, charitable giving, and of course, our trademark frozen eegees,” CEO Ron Petty said in the release.


Arizona reports 742 new coronavirus cases, three more deaths

Arizona health authorities reported 742 new coronavirus cases and three additional deaths on Sunday morning.

That put the state’s documented totals at 231,149 COVID-19 infections and 5,827 fatalities, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Key metrics about the severity of Arizona’s pandemic have dropped dramatically from summertime peaks, but cases and hospitalizations have been trending upward recently.

The number of Arizona’s confirmed or suspected COVID-19 hospital inpatients dropped to 714 on Sunday, after hitting a monthly high of 757 on Saturday.


Horse Fire near Prescott grows to 8,950 acres, remains 0% contained

The Horse Fire burning 18 miles south of Prescott that forced the evacuation of the nearby Crown King community grew slightly to 8,950 acres as of Sunday morning.

While the blaze is still 0% contained, according to a press release, the growth rate has improved compared to previous reports on the fire.

The Horse Fire, which started on Thursday, grew from 3,500 acres to 8,300 acres on Friday.

Evacuations remain in effect for communities of Crown King, Minnehaha, Horsethief Cabins and any other areas in and around the fire area.
