PHOENIX — Goodyear is the newest recipient of the second-annual Arizona Chamber of Commerce’s Best City for Business award.

The city received the award for its business-friendly customer service and ability to bring different industries to the area, along with its efforts to increase quality of life within the city limits, according to a chamber release.

Goodyear received the award on Wednesday, during the Chamber’s annual awards luncheon, the release said.

Glen Hamer, who serves as the president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, commended the city for its ability to support businesses within the city limits.

“On behalf of Arizona job creators, we want to thank the city’s leadership and commitment to creating an environment where communities can flourish, and businesses can grow and thrive,” Hamer said in the press release.

The Chamber cited Goodyear’s “supportive council” which has spent much of the past two decades attracting businesses to the city while also getting rid of obstacles to business growth.

Mayor Georgia Lord said in the release that the council’s work speaks for itself, with Fortune 500 corporations like Microsoft, Amazon, McLane Foods, Macy’s and Chewy.com opening facilities within the city limits.

“When companies decide they are going to plant themselves in Goodyear, we’re very aggressive about delivery dates,” Mayor Lord said. “They’re very challenging. I think of Microsoft and the kinds of companies coming in and you have to be on top of things.”

The Best City for Business award is given to the city in the Grand Canyon State that best works with companies to streamline processes while having clear expectations on permitting and approvals, amongst other qualifications.

Wednesday’s awards luncheon also recognized four women in recognition of the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage, with all four being business leaders in the state.

The quartet includes Arizona Senate President Karen Fann, State Rep. Regina Cobb, Director of Arizona Department of Health Services Cara Christ and Maria Baier, who serves as the senior vice president of public affairs for the Phoenix Suns.
