PHOENIX — Gilbert Days is going to have a little bit of a different look in 2020.
The town announced on Wednesday that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Gilbert Days Parade is going to be held virtually.
But that doesn’t mean Gilbert residents won’t be involved in the festivities.
In fact, the community is invited to participate in a shoebox parade by creating a “float” from an empty shoebox with one of four themes: celebrating heroes on the front lines, Gilbert’s centennial celebration, school spirit or commercial.
The event is free for all ages and entries will be accepted until Nov. 9, with the top five from each category to be declared winners via a public vote.
In addition to the virtual shoebox parade will be a concert and dance showcase, which will both take place at the new amphitheater at Gilbert Regional Park.
The concert’s headliner will be Matt Farris and take place on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m., while the dance showcase will feature local dance groups on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration is required and physical distancing circles will be marked.
